Dear lecturers,

In the last weeks, there has been some discussion about
the issue that not all PhD students in physics and
astrophysics at the University of Bonn are informed about
the BCGS. Thus, we'd kindly ask you to forward the
following mail with information about the BCGS (as well as
the attached PDF files) to all PhD students in your group.
Both the attached Welcome Note and the TAC Meeting
Documentation should also be made available to new
doctoral students when they start their PhD.

Dear PhD students,

In the following, we wish to provide you with some basic
information about the Bonn-Cologne Graduate School of
Physics and Astronomy (BCGS). If you are already
well-informed about the BCGS, please feel free to discard
this e-mail.

All PhD students in physics and astrophysics at the
University of Bonn are by default members of the BCGS
(though membership is of course voluntary). The benefits
include, among other things, the opportunity to take part
in events such as Soft Skills Courses, weekend seminars,
etc. Additionally, we regularly send out calls for
applications for travel allowances and partial
scholarships. Details can be found on our homepage
(http://www.gradschool.physics.uni-bonn.de/), information
about upcoming events are usually distributed via our
mailing list. If you wish to join the list, simply contact
us via gradschool.physics at uni-bonn.de.

Please note that we ask all BCGS PhD students to form a
Thesis Advisory Committee (TAC), which oversees their
studies and offers support -- more information can be
found in the attached Welcome Note. In case you haven't
done so yet, please send the details about your TAC to the
BCGS office. Students who already formed a TAC (for
example due to an IMPRS membership) do not need to form
another one, of course -- nonetheless, they are kindly
asked to inform us about the members of their TAC using
the corresponding form.

If you have any questions, please do not hesitate to
contact us via e-mail (gradschool.physics at uni-bonn.de) or
to drop by at our office (rooms 2.011 and 2.012 in the
HISKP, Nussallee 14-16).
